183M Superyacht REV Undergoing Outfitting in Norway: The world’s largest superyacht, the 183-meter REV has arrived at the VARD shipyard in Norway for initial interior outfitting after her launch from the manufacturer’s Romanian yard. The facility in Norway will equip her with technical and scientific equipment until April 2020. Afterward, the yacht will depart for Lloyd Werft in Bremerhaven, Germany for finally outfitting before her delivery, scheduled for early 2021.
REV Ocean is the world’s largest superyacht at 17,440 GT. She will be capable of conducting scientific missions worldwide to research the marine ecosystem the impact of carbon dioxide, plastic pollution and sustainable fishing.
George Gill, project director and owner’s representative noted that REV’s arrival in Brattyvaag is a crucial step in her development as the groundwork for the research and operations of the vessel are laid. Getting these systems and her keystone machinery right is critical to her success and position within the world’s research fleet.
Espen Øino is responsible for REV’s design. The vessel can carry up to 55 scientists and 35 crewmembers in research mode or up to 36 guests and 54 crewmembers when used for luxury expeditions. H2 Yacht Design has crafted her interiors, she will carry equipment such as scientific trawls, sonar systems, laboratories, a moon pool, a Triton submarine that can dive to a depth of 2,300 meters, a ROV with a 6,000-meter depth capacity and advanced communications equipment.
VARD has a long experience in building sophisticated vessels, but the size, complexity and purpose of REV had added additional enthusiasm for al parties involved in her construction. The manufacturer believes its employees in the Brattyvaag facility will eagerly take on the outfitting phase.
REV Ocean Operations Director Oystein Mikelborg noted that over the next few months YARD Brattyvaag will transform the vessel into one of the world’s most advanced research ships. The complexity and sheer scale of the work ahead is challenging as REV’s is notoriously complex and includes many sensitive systems that need to work together seamlessly.
